The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Every Moment is the Guru

Quote of the Day:

“Life always gives us exactly the teacher we need at every moment.

This includes every mosquito, every misfortune, every red light, every traffic jam, every obnoxious supervisor (or employee), every illness, every loss, every moment of joy or depression, every addiction, every piece of garbage, every breath.

Every moment is the guru.” ~Charlotte Joko Beck

The Single Woman Says:

Something occurred to me as I was sitting in traffic this morning on the longest commute in the state of Tennessee (this is actually not an exaggeration – the commute I make every morning on I-24 is, in fact, the longest in the state)…

The destination is always there. It never falters just because we do. We can’t always see it clearly. Sometimes it’s concealed by traffic or detours or fog or roadblocks or road construction or “almost lovers” or failed friendships or alarm clocks that forgot to go off or jobs we work but hate or broken dreams or broken hearts or tears that can’t seem to stop falling…but it’s still there, ever faithful, beckoning us to keep going, don’t stop, don’t give up. The thing is: Obstacles aren’t there to impede you from getting to your destination; they’re there to prepare you for it. Every moment of the waiting is preparing you for what you’re waiting for. Every person who breaks your heart is preparing you to for the one who never will. And every challenge, detour, obstacle, and adversity you face down and overcome is molding you, polishing you, turning you into the person you’re meant to be. Just because I couldn’t SEE downtown Nashville this morning for all the traffic doesn’t mean it went anywhere. And I didn’t stray from my course simply because the going got a little rough – I pressed on, knowing that I might not get there as quickly as I wanted, but I WOULD get there. My vision might have been blocked…but my destiny was not.

Allow Life and God and Fate to work out the kinks in you. Start celebrating the fact that your destiny is SO big, it’s going to take awhile to prepare you for it. If you had a big, exciting date with the person of your dreams, you wouldn’t rush the preparations, would you? You would take your time and get every little thing right. Shouldn’t a date with destiny require the same amount of time and attention?
