The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Thankful for the Blank Spaces

Quote of the Day:

“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” ~Meister Eckhart

The Single Woman Says:

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I hope today you are surrounded by family and friends and love. I hope that you remember that a thankful heart is a beautiful heart. And I hope you give pause for a moment to reflect upon the past year and give thanks for everything that came your way AND everything that went away…because every bit of it is another thread in the rich, beautiful tapestry of your life.

What are you thankful for today? It might sound funny, but today I am thankful for the blank spaces: The seasons of life when all is quiet and it seems on the surface as though nothing is happening. Though I tend to be a woman of action and sometimes get frustrated by seasons of silence, it occurred to me recently that without the blank spaces, our lives would be a chaotic mess with no rhyme or reason. Think about it. How would reading a book be if the pages were completely covered in words with no white spaces to designate sentences and paragraphs and chapters? It would be impossible! And so would living your story if you didn’t have those seasons of silence and waiting and rest. Blank spaces in our lives are opportunities to rejuvenate, to recharge, to get prepared for the big things coming our way. If our lives are the picture, the blank spaces are the frame…bookending our days, our years, our LIVES.

Today: Hit the pause button and stop right where you’re at for a moment. Gaze upon everywhere you’ve been in the past 365 days. The triumphs. The victories. The trials. The setbacks. The breakups. The breakthroughs. Then realize that every step you took was ordered, to bring you to where you are today. And though the destination might still be unclear…all that matters is that you’re HERE…a little bit better and a little bit stronger than you were last year.
