The Single Woman Says:

Today, this week, this moment…I want to make the theme “Moving Forward.”

I’m in a phase of my life right now where everything is new. New phone, new phone number, new hair color, new(ish) apartment, and in one week: A new job.

Yes, in one week I will step away from a job I have been at for five long years (FIVE YEARS!) to be a full-time writer. To those of you didn’t even know I had a job other than being The Single Woman…surprise! J I do public relations for a non-profit organization in Nashville. And though I am grateful for the opportunities and stability the position has offered to me over the past half decade…I couldn’t be more excited about moving forward into the next phase of my life.

The time has come to take a leap of faith and bet on myself and step out of my comfort zone and into the life of a full-time writer…and it’s exciting and scary at the same time. But something I have found as I begin to let go of all semblances of security and familiarity in my life: Out on a limb is where all the good stuff is. Every time you release your hold on the old, you issue an invitation to the Universe to fill up that space with the new. And as great as where you’ve been might’ve been, it can’t hold a candle to where you can go.

This week, I want you to remember this: The only way to truly move forward is to let go of everything holding you back. Old grievances, old loves, old heartbreaks, old mindsets…these things might have been beneficial in chapter one, but their time is done. A new story can only be written to the degree that you are willing to close the book on the past. As comforting as the familiar can be…there is no greatness in security.
