The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Bring On the Rain!

Quote of the Day:

“Tomorrow’s another day, & I’m thirsty anyway…so bring on the rain.” ~Jo Dee Messina

The Single Woman Says:

They say that when it rains, it pours…and this weekend, the flood of random events in my life brought that old adage to life. First, my car broke down. My dad and I jumped it off, thinking it was just a fluke, and it worked for two days…then broke down again last night in the midst of the pouring rain. I also returned home to my apartment after spending Thanksgiving with my family to discover the slightly weird smell I had noticed coming from my gas fireplace had turned into the overpowering stench of gasoline. The gas man came out to investigate, only to discover a natural gas leak that had been going on for over a week and somehow had not caused any harm to me or my cat. Then I was sitting innocently at the pharmacy drive-through at Walgreens waiting on my prescription when all of a sudden, I hear a thundering rumble and look up to see rocks hurtling down the side of the very steep rock wall at the back of the parking lot toward me. They came to a halt near the front of my car, leaving me breathless and feeling as though someone was about to jump out from behind a bush with a video camera and yell “Gotcha!”

What all of this tells me is not that I would make an excellent star of the next installment of “Final Destination,” and not that I should batten down the hatches and wait for the locusts to arrive, but that sometimes, our lives have to veer wildly off course to get us to where we’re meant to be. Sometimes it takes a detour we never would have CHOSEN to take to get us to make a decision we NEED to make. And sometimes, as my daily “Note From the Universe” reminded me oh so appropriately this morning:

“Detours, challenges, and crisis are simply covers for miracles that had no other way of reaching you.”
