Yesterday I noticed the trending topic #ThatsWhyUrSingle climb to popularity on Twitter, and most of the corresponding tweets and reasons listed for “being single” were negative. It seems that even in the year 2011, there’s a stigma attached to being single that the lack of a mate denotes a lack of worth, or appeal, or significance.

I say right this very minute, put on your most fabulous stilettos and kick that tired, outdated stigma to the curb!

Perhaps you are single because you are pursuing your dreams and letting love pursue you. Perhaps you are single because you enjoy flying solo and at this point in your life, you wanna choose your own destination without input from a co-pilot. Or perhaps you are single simply because you haven’t found Mr. Right and you love yourself too much to settle for Mr. Wrong. Whatever the reason – do your single girl rock with pride and tell anyone who can’t get on board to step aside. Don’t let anyone’s limited thinking cause you to put limitations on yourself and your life choices.

Remember: Single is a choice – not a lack of options. It takes a brave girl to choose YOU over “I do.” And THAT, my dears…that bravery, and courage, and heart, and audaciousness, and refusal to compromise…#ThatsWhyUrSingle.
